Mountains dominate the landscape around the Leh as it is at an altitude of 3500m. This area is the highest inhabited region of India and the River Indus with its tributaries flows through the ranges. Ladakh is a separate province of the State of Jammu and Kashmir and distinct in its culture and topography. It is a region which was opened to tourists only a few years ago. Ladakh is known for adventure tourism and it offers good range of variety such as trekking, jeep safari, biking and cycle trekking. Other attractions of this are its people and culture, cuisine, and handicraft. Ladakh witnesses a surge of tourists incoming during the famous Hemis Festival, typically takes place around June—July.
