Sikkim

73025-sikkim.jpgSikkim is arguably the last Himalayan Shangri-La—a fictional land of peace and perpetual youth—which has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, Kanchenjunga (8586 mt). It welcomes you as a home to glaciers, alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers. Until 1975, Sikkim had been an independent kingdom surrounded by Bhutan, Tibet, and Nepal. When you are tired from too much of city dust and dirt, and other urban life toxics, Sikkim offers you a perfect solution—lushly forested mountain valleys, Tibetan style Buddhist monasteries, and abundant views of the Himalayan range.

Attractions of Sikkim are varied and wide. Nature has created wonderfully carved-out landscapes in Lachung and Lachen. Lake Tsomgo and Yumthang valley of flowers are other big draws of the area. Among bright and colorful prayer flags strewn all around, a journey to the monasteries itself is worth experiencing especially when the place is dotted with beautiful Gompas like Rumtek, Tashiding, etc.

In recent years, in spite of Sikkim being changed from an idyllic small village to a bustling place—thanks to ever-growing tourist inflow—it always has crisp and fresh mountain air. You can even have lots of space to wander around and be with yourself. Sikkim is among places in India with most friendly and charming people living here. Enjoy their hospitality and be a part of their life albeit temporarily.
